Our Story

Launched in 2016, the establishment of Speraco marked the culmination of two decades of our Founder’s journey, and his experience of leading in high trust environments.

Pankaj Popli’s early career was focused on managing and developing protocols for one of the leading hotels of the world. This extended to servicing some of the world’s most prominent leaders of the time. Key moments of this early chapter included meeting Nelson Mandela and leading the Y2K hotel systems upgrade.

In 2007, Pankaj transitioned to working in Australian financial services. This aligned with the beginning of the Great Recession. The fallout from the GFC continued over the next eight years, forcing industry restructuring and driving significant regulatory reforms. The need to engage technology and analytics in building robust market-integrity infrastructure, and sector-level interoperability around data standards and global identifiers, was recurrent.

Time spent in Hong Kong in 2014, building the first truly independent investor education platform for the local funds management market, provided Pankaj with a glimpse of the transition in social governance underway in the city. The closing of this chapter was marked by leading the build and roll out of the G-20 endorsed Global LEI system, in Australia. This system, recommend by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and supported by finance ministers and governors of central banks, was designed for better assessment of micro and macro prudential risks in the financial markets.

In 2016, while supporting Afghan refugee youth programs in Western Sydney, the purpose for Speraco was truly distilled. Speraco was to offer expertise instilled with empathy, fusing the vigour of performance-driven and rigour of profit-driven, business models. We were to build and embed trust-enabling mechanisms for businesses entrusted to serve communities of clients. We were to assist businesses transitioning to a future-oriented purpose-driven model, profiting from solving ‘wicked problems’.

Speraco has since partnered with several well-known Australian businesses and organisations, working with their boards and senior leadership on systemic solutions to meet the challenges of governing in complex environments. We serve on committees and working groups for clients who seek to maintain their social licence with communities of stakeholders.
